Did you know that the majority of the 2013 version of Oakes' Clinical Pracitioner's Pocket Guide (the Blue Book) is up and available on RespiratoryUpdate? Did you know that it isn't even available in print form yet? This is just another benefit to being a oakesacademy.com member. Just a reminder, but you can also benefit from:

1. Full-text access to all the Oakes' titles, which includes expanded information for every title - much more than is available in print form. All the titles are fully searchable - making finding what you need a cinch.

2. Full access to our expert forums, complete with a panel of active carefully chosen experts who will answers questions ranging from general care to critical care. Have questions about managing patients on APRV?

Rare is the day when there are no changes made somewhere at RespiratoryUpdate. Keeping up with the speed of Respiratory is a team's full-time job. For example, you will find all kinds of expanded disease information - available online only. Not to mention the steady parade of resources being added and updated.

We are excited to announce that the Clinical Practitioner's Pocket Guide (the Blue Book) is on the way to be printed as I type. This 2013 edition is full of new information, a major edition update. What does that mean for RespiratoryUpdate? Well, some of the changes have already been made here (shhh - don't tell anyone but we actually stole stuff from RespiratoryUpdate for the book!). Everything else will be updated within the next few weeks. That means an already outstanding site will become even more robust.

Oh, and you'll have the changes several months before they're available in print. Now that's exciting news.

What are we working on day-to-day at the oakesacademy.com headquarters (okay, so our headquarters is spread out thousands of miles apart - the wonders of computing)?

- Hemodynamics Books is being added fast and furiously. Several chapters are officially posted already, and much more is "searchable" through the "Search" link.

- Forums - We are continuing to recruit enthusiastic, knowledgeable Forum Moderators. We will be upgrading the Forum area in the next few weeks, which will include awarding points for every (reasonable) post made. These points can then be traded in for free membership time, books, and much more!

Also coming to the Forum . . . our question of the week - an interesting clinical or theoretical question. At times we will select "Oakes Gold Standard Posts" to integrate into the book content, and award people a bonus supply of points.

- Adult Critical Care Specialist test exam preparation material . . . coming very soon (we are hoping January!).

- Student Portal: One of our most exciting projects, this area is being specially designed for the Respiratory Student with guided sections on pathophysiology, disease management, and more.

- Rapidly expanding sections on Specialty Modes of Ventilation. For example, we are currently working on an algorithm for HFOV Initiation/Management/Discontinuation based on Evidence-Based Medicine.

Oh, and there's lots more, but quite frankly I am out of breath. It's time for a Duoneb or something.
