The NBRC examination pathway is changing

TMC now or RTE in 2027?

The current TMC and CSE pathway is transitioning to one Respiratory Therapy Examination. The program you need depends primarily on when you plan to test.

Testing by December 31, 2026

Prepare for the TMC

The TMC remains available through December 31, 2026. Candidates must apply through the NBRC by December 15, 2026.

Testing beginning January 1, 2027

Prepare for the RTE

The new single examination uses two cut scores: the low cut score earns the CRT credential and the high cut score earns the RRT credential.

Already on the TMC/CSE pathway? The CSE will remain available through December 31, 2027, for eligible candidates who achieve the TMC high cut score before the end of 2026. Review your individual eligibility and deadlines directly with the NBRC.
